Abstract - "Design and construction methods and techniques for the sustainable renovation of existing buildings" - KEP energy

In Italy and throughout Europe, the building sector accounts for about one third of total energy consumption. Given that 70 % of existing buildings have a low record of energy efficiency, a high rate of saving can be achieved merely through the redevelopment of the building envelope and installations. Eco-sustainable restoration of existing buildings is, in view of its limited impact, one of the most ecologically significant courses of action because, compared to "ex novo" construction, it involves less actual building and therefore less consumption of soil and energy.
